Auschwitz survivor conveys compassion to students at Hassenbrook
Hassenbrook Academy had the pleasure of receiving a very special visitor for the third consecutive year this week, when Mr Leslie Kleinman, Holocaust survivor spoke to our current Year 9 students. He shared vivid memories of his early life with us and recounted his harrowing journey to Auschwitz.
Miss Alessandra Bell, Leader of KS3 History said, ‘ To hear his stories first hand, amazed and humbled our staff and students, and it was very apparent that this was a period of history that should never be forgotten.’
As a mark of respect, a bay tree was planted in the Hassenbrook Memorial Garden by Mr Kleinman and two Year 9 students, Alice Martin and Tobi Adeyinka. This also coincided with Holocaust Memorial Day held on 27th January 2012.
