YOUNG WRITERS COMPOSE PROSE

Over fifty Year 7 students from Hassenbrook School, put pen to paper recently in order to enter the Rotary Young Writer competition.

Mr Compton, Head of English at Hassenbrook said, ‘Each student produced a piece of original poetry or prose based around the theme ‘environment’ in the first round of local heats. All participants have received a certificate acknowledging their entry however two of our young students, Callum Wakefield, 11 years old from Grays and Ben Stokes, 11 years old, from Stanford le Hope won vouchers and have been put forward to the next round of regional heats.’

The purpose of the event targeting schools and youth groups is to encourage excellence in writing among children in their local community and provides a mechanism for young people to participate, using their writing skills, imagination and creativity.
