LGBT+

At Hassenbrook Academy we encourage all students to be themselves, and express themselves through whatever means they see fit.

Across yeas 7-11, embedded in the PSHE curriculum, are dedicated lessons on Sex and Relationships. These lessons explore the gender spectrum, different sexualities and how family life looks for a wide range of people. Students are encouraged to ask questions to broaden their minds, and break down stereotypes to eradicate discrimination.

We have a well-established Pride Club that meet twice a week in an safe, fun dedicated space that embraces the LGBTQ+ community and all that it stands for. Students within the academy are aware of which staff are a part of this club due to their easily recognisable rainbow lanyards, and students are also encouraged to wear the rainbow ribbon if they wish to. In addition to this we have pronoun badges for anyone that is exploring their gender issues. Throughout the year we have talks from outside speakers, especially for our Pride members,  that encourage students to be confident within themselves and how to cope with prejudice and discrimination towards them.
